sitting with angels…
(For a dear friend of Ariel’s – who could not be here this year to sing along side her (and Anne) in the annual King’s Chorus concert.)
The opening procession – having the choir enter from the rear of the congregation while performing the Salve Regina, was what I think Peter Jackson imagined when he had Frodo and Sam see the Elven pass by that first time in the forest.
The sopranos and altos lifting us to the great vaulted ceiling; the tenors and bass putting our feet meatily back in the earth. Everyone seemed to be floating.
There were moments in the concert when I thought I saw butterflies lifting up amongst the stained glass.
The woman in front of me says she felt goosebumps.
The power of communal voice – in ecstasy.
Such sublime lightness!
Beautiful. Well done! Bravo!
