Explain this to me: One of our homeless youth at the shelter, who after years of addictions is making an honest attempt to get his shit together, found his first part-time job and now wants to parlay that employment into getting some sort of shared housing and getting himself out of the homeless shelter.

The problem is he doesn’t make enough money at his job to qualify for government housing assistance.

The government does in fact have a fund of money set aside to assist homeless and marginalized youth get housing, but you have to make enough money to qualify for it.

So this youth is stuck. He doesn’t make enough money to get assistance to help him get housing. And yet he can’t get housing because he can’t get assistance.

And you wonder why the shelter runs at capacity…
