Facing the Habit
If any one thinks they can break an addiction all by themselves, this documentary does a great job of breaking down that fallacy.
Facing the Habit so absolutely puts you smack in the middle of everything that is wrong with addiction support. Everything that is wrong with how the law and politicians see addiction, everything that is wrong with addiction services (from lack of services, lack of coordination of services, lack of education about addictions), and everything that is wrong about our ideas and stereotypes about who gets addictions, and how we “need to deal” with our addictions on our own.
In the technical sense, this documentary is pretty standard in its form and presentation. But in its examination of the sheer power of addiction, it is infinitely fascinating, hard to watch, tragic, and informative.
